I make the clothes for myself exactly as I want them. I also can repair and alter clothes so they have a longer life. I feel good about it. I love sewing as an alternative creative outlet besides my usual drawing, painting, and writing.

I love to sew because I get to create awesome and nifty things for my 4 year old son. His eyes light up every time I create a new stuffed animal or hat. I love to sew because it allows me to make things myself and save money.

I see something that I like dress, skirt, bag, etc. I love to sew because I can repair or reinvent things rather than replacing. You are given lots of instructions, tips, tricks, and advice. The only setback, the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is that 1. Props to Burda for saving space and using less paper, but my brain just can't han This book has a lot going for it.

Props to Burda for saving space and using less paper, but my brain just can't handle all the overlapping pieces, even with the color coding to help you. Also not keen on having to add on the seam allowance after tracing. Just seems like you would have to dedicate so much time to preparation before you can finally get to work on your garment. It includes five master patterns that you have to trace and add seam allowances. The book tells you everything from complete instructions on how to trace a pattern, to alter the pattern, to how to sew it up.

I already know how to do this so I was a bit underwhelmed. Just Okay Basic information that almost every sewing book has. I did like the Burda to US size charts. Is this a good book for beginner's? I'd recommend this book for a beginner who has some experience in sewing. I would not recommend this book to anyone who has no experience in sewing. There is not enough detailing in this book for someone who has never sewn before. Is there detailed instructions and diagrams? Based on the project I'm currently working on, no.

There are not a lot of d I'm in the process of sewing the coat Karin's variation from this book. There are not a lot of diagrams and the instructions are not worded to where they are easy to follow. I found myself re-reading many sections because I was lost on the wording.

It was either unclear or could have been worded differently. Example- The coat I'm working on is a sewer's variation of the original. Lots of pattern changes. One pattern piece calls for you to cut it in two, but does not give any direction to which pattern piece you will work on next. I had to re-read a few times to make a guess. Another example- The diagram showed one way, but the instructions said another.

Would I recommend this book? Definitely yes. I borrowed this book from the library. This is the most modern and stylish sewing book I've come across. I plan to go out and buy this book for my own home library. Their are 5 basic patterns Each basic pattern has 2 additional variations. At the end of each segment there is 2 pages of other sewer's variations. It will inspire your creative side and teach you to think out side of the box.
